Visionary Architecture is term used for describe which exist only on paper. The works of visionary architecture have idealistic and utopist aspects. Visionary architecture describes mental pictures created by imagination. It is related with imaginary world and also related with desire to reach optimum lives. Imaginary, conceptual and radical designs on paper use as tools that goals of ideal world. These designs provide understanding of the abnormal impression of the universes that are difficult to visit, aside from through the visual performance of the composed and creative environment. In addition to that, these design can be evaluating in two meanings. One of them is imaginary meaning which represents unrealistic and impossible to achieve. Other one is creating unseen reality. Visionary architecture provides an innovative way to create ideal world and gives ideas for future world.
There are criticisms of visionary architecture. One of them is the belief that these buildings cannot be constructed in the real world and the other is the belief that some visionary designs are difficult to be occupied by the human. Visionary architecture works disassociate with the physical nature of the real world. On the other hand, these drawings characterized true importance of architecture and design that means the essentialness of the works of visionary design.

Artists and architects such as Giovanni Battista Piranesi, Italian artist in 18thcentury, Etienne-Louis Boullee, French neoclassical architect in 18th century, Antonio Sant'Elia, Italian architect and important architect of the Futurist movement in 19th century, Lebbeus Woods, Alexander Brodsky and Ilya Utkin in 20th century created significant works of visionary architecture.
